 C.O.L.A. Report

How important is the Cost of Living Allowance or COLA???

The following is a breakdown of the COLA that has been added to our basic pay over the years.

Our COLA was capped during the 1971-1973 contract.

1973- 1975    $166.00 was added to our base pay over the years.

1975- 1978    $1,310.00 was added to our base pay from the COLA accumulated during the previous contract.

1978-1981   $1, 518.00 was added to our base pay from the previous contract.

1981-1984   $ 3, 619.00 was added to our base pay from the previous contract.

This was the most that we had ever received to date!

1984-1987   $1,643.00 was added to our base pay from the previous contract.

1987-1990   $1,269.00 was added to our base pay from the previous contract.

1990-1994   $2,517.00 was added to our base pay in February of 1994. This was for the 1887-1990 contract

1994-1998   $ 2142.00 was rolled into our base pay from the 1990-93 Agreement. Also included in the Arbitrators Award was a change that rolls the COLA into your basic pay as it is accumulated. Prior to this we had to negotiate a roll in date each contract.

1995-1997    We are currently researching how much COLA   was added to our basic pay during this period. We are estimating that it was around $1500.00

1998-2000   During this period we accumulated $2,600.00      toward our basic pay.

So if you were to add up the total COLA that has been added to our basic pay with $1500.00 being estimated for the period from 1995-1997. The total would be $18,284.00.That adds up to a significant amount of our basic pay. We hope this sheds some light on how important the COLA benefit is to our financial wage package
